Description: One of the oldest and best loved community activities in the Mount Angel area, the 4-day Oktoberfest (the largest folk festival in the state) attracts more than 300,000 people each year to Mount Angel, a community founded by German pioneers in 1867. Featuring music, food, dress and beverages of Bavaria, Oktoberfest celebrates German culture and has been a successful attraction for almost 50 years. Description: The sweet, relaxing aroma of lavender fills the air during the annual Oregon Lavender Festival. According to the Oregon Lavender Association, Oregon has "long been a lavender pioneer" and this annual festival, which is held at dozens of farms throughout the Willamette Valley, is a celebration of this versatile flower's history. Five of Washington County's own lavender farms are joining in this year's festivities, each offering activities, lavender-scented products and foods such as cookies and jams made from locally grown lavender, and, of course, fresh-cut lavender (many farms will be offering guests a chance to cut their own bunches of lavender). Participating farms include: Barb's Dutch Mill Herb Farm, Helvetia Lavender Farm, Jackson School Lavender, Mountainside Lavender, Seasonal Mary Herb~Flower Farm. Parking and admission to the farms are free.
